Function:

The Tax Collector’s office is a section of the City’s Finance Department. The office collects payments for the following items:

• real estate tax (for approximately 8,000 properties on a semi-annual basis)
• timber tax
• special assessments
• boat tax (from deputized boat dealers)
• bank stock tax
• notary services
• parking ticket payments
• dump (Transfer Station) stickers & passes
• current use penalties
• water and sewer bills

In addition, the office processes tax liens for unpaid taxes in arrearage; the office prepares all pertinent documents as required by law through all applicable stages of the tax collection process up to and including the deeding to the City of the subject property.

The office also disburses funds to the City Treasurer (see Finance).
