The Public Works Department administers and maintains the City’s highways and its storm drainage and sanitary sewer systems. The department also provides solid waste collection and disposal. Laconia is a member of the Concord Regional Solid Waste Resource Recovery Cooperative which operates a waste-to-energy incinerator to dispose of the solid waste of 27 communities. In addition, Laconia is a member of the Winnipesaukee River Basin Program which provides interceptors and a regional wastewater treatment plan serving nine communities.

Meredith Center Road Transfer Station: |
| Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to Noon. |
| Receives: normal solid waste material, limited demolition and construction material, recycling drop-off center. |

Hilliard Road Brush Dump: |
| Summer Hours (April - November): Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; |
| Winter Hours: by appointment only. |
| Receives: clean wood only, tree branches less than 3 inches in diameter. |

Residential Curbside Recycling: |
| What: glass bottles and jars; aluminum and steel cans; plastics #1 through #7; and newspapers; |
| When: recyclable pickup every "other week" on regular solid waste collection day. |
Dump Stickers ($20.00) are good for the calendar year and apply to the Transfer Station and the Brush Dump. Day passes are also available ($3.00). Loads under 1 ton are $5; loads of 1-2 tons are $10; and loads over 2 tons are $20/ton. The fee for appliances is $10.00. E-waste: CPU's, VCR's, DVD's, printers, scanners, radios, fax machines, home copiers and small stereos $5 each; computer monitors, laptop computers, small/medium TV's $10 each and large TV's (greater than 21"), large stereo equipment $15 each. Construction and demolition debris is accepted for $7.50 per 100 lbs.
Spring Clean-up Days are held in mid-May: for more information, contact this department or watch for advertising detailing hours and items to be accepted.
Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day - held annually the first Saturday in August, this event is for households only (no businesses) and is held at the City Garage on Messer Street - watch for advertising detailing hours and materials to be accepted.

ADMINISTRATION:
Applications for special signs;
Dump stickers, passes and coupons (obtained in the City Clerk's office);
Permits:
- plumbing and driveways;
- sewer; and,
- trenching/digging.
HIGHWAYS: The Public Works Department handles the design of new and reconstructed streets. Additional tasks performed and items maintained by the department include: road and bridge maintenance, ditch maintenance, crack sealing, dust control, grading unpaved roads, guardrail repairs, mowing, patching, paint striping, street sweeping, and traffic control structures, signs and lights maintenance.
LACONIA SEWER SYSTEM: The Public Works department rebuilds collapsed sewer manholes, cleans sewer lines, maintains pump stations, and provides sewer connection inspections.
STORM DRAINAGE: The department’s storm drainage tasks include rebuilding collapsed Catch Basin elements, replacing collapsed and fatigued culverts, opening frozen culverts and drains, cleaning drain pipes and basins, and inspecting and maintaining culverts and drains.
OTHER TASKS: The department also performs such other tasks as:
- Snow removal and maintenance of snow dumping areas;
- Repair of damage caused by snowplows;
- Stockpiling winter sand and salt;
- Sidewalk construction, sweeping and repair;
- Install and maintain parking meters at Weirs Beach;
- Maintenance of the Weirs docks;
- Parks & Recreation design services: parking lots, tracks, grading of beaches;
- Tree maintenance: planting, trimming, and repair or removal of storm-damaged trees.
