City of Laconia Government

Laconia was established as a City in 1893 and is the county seat for Belknap County. Originally governed by a Mayor/City Council form of government, in 1971 the City implemented a City Manager/City Council form of government with the Mayor being the ceremonial head of the City. The Council is responsible for all budgetary, judicial and executive functions of the City. The City Manager, as chief administrative officer, oversees the City's day-to-day operations.
