Laconia fire crews, along with mutual aid from Gilford and Belmont were dispatched to a building fire in the area of Union Avenue and Zion Hill Road around 10 AM on Christmas Day. First arriving crews found heavy smoke fire on the first level of the building at 1105 Union Avenue and requested a 2nd alarm for additional help. Upon arrival, an occupant of the building reported a male victim trapped in the second level living area and crews were able to enter the building under high heat and zero visibility conditions to rescue the man. The fire was attacked and extinguished by additional crews. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the man that was rescued was medically evaluated on scene, and refused transport to the hospital.
