If the library's collection doesn't include a title you're looking for, we can try to get it for you! For newly released items, you can fill out a purchase request with this form: https://www.laconianh.gov/FormCenter/Laconia-Public-Library-6/Patron-Request-Form-72
The library adheres to a collection development policy set by the board of trustees, and the budget voted on by the city of Laconia when making purchasing decisions. Therefore, a purchase request is not a guarantee that a request will be filled. If we are unable to purchase a title, we can try to acquire it through our state ILL system.
If the title is a year or more old, we can request it through our inter-library loan system. Fill out our form to request an ILL: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfwUlR5e2XWGzKkpXEE6niTiyUaLO0ExA_NnJOZmoOMTPHk0Q/viewform
Borrowing Materials for Our Patrons
Interlibrary loan is offered to all Laconia Public Library cardholders in good standing with a proven circulation record. Requests can be made here at the library, by phone, or online.
Patrons are limited to four interlibrary loan requests/loans in process at any given time. Materials not available through the interlibrary loan system are books owned by the Laconia Public Library: DVD, reference books, rare books, textbooks, games, and software.
There is no fee for in-state loans. However out of state libraries often charge a fee. If there is a fee for an item, no request will be made unless the patron agrees to pay the fee. Once the item is shipped by the loaning library the patron will be responsible for all charges even if the material is not picked up.
Availability of materials is determined by the loaning library. The time varies depending on the item requested and how many libraries own it. Two weeks is an average for materials to arrive but it could be longer. There are no rush requests. If a request is no longer needed, patrons should notify the library to cancel the request or send the material back.
Once the material arrives the patron will be notified by phone or email that the material is available for them. Materials will be held for one week and if not picked up will be sent back to the loaning library.
The loan period is determined by the loaning library. The loaning library may impose restrictions, such as” in-library-use only” or “no renewals” and must be adhered to by the patron. Patrons must request renewals at least three days before the due date. Renewals are provided at the owning library’s discretion and can not be guaranteed. We cannot request renewals for items that are already overdue.
Please make every effort to return items by the specified due date. Interlibrary loan service may be limited or suspended for those who abuse the privilege, including those who repeatedly fail to pick up requested material or fail to return materials promptly.
Payment must be made for lost, damaged materials, or have accrued fines from the loaning library. No refunds will be made for lost and paid interlibrary loan materials that are subsequently found.
